“Let us play a little in the dreamscape of the subconscious mind”
Collage therapy allows us to use our creativity to express the things the
conscious mind doesn’t see.
Consider a pond, it can be crystal clear and calm, muddied and churned,
and all stages in between. So too the mind!
As life happens we are conditioned and programmed with layers and layers of beliefs,
ideas, expectations and norms; with our culture, our race, our sex, our religion.
Bit by bit the mind is formed and we develop our habitual tendencies.
Whether they work or not, we react to life based on what we have put into our pond.
Seldom do we go beyond the shores let alone look below the surface
for what is buried in the muck.
When something appears in our lives we don’t particularly want to deal with,
we supress it and in it goes to join the other things lurking in the murky depths.
The only time we get to process anything the conscious mind hasn’t looked
at is in our dream time.
Here the subconscious comes out to play or taunt us. As we know anything can
happen in a dream, not much ever makes sense and so we look to the symbols of dreams to understand them.
Choose something to work with, either an event you haven’t dealt with, a feeling that you can’t shake, a person that bothers you, one of your favourite trigger points, what home means, what the ideal relationship looks like, how you feel about yourself, or perhaps the great big one – who am I.
There are no limits everything works, it can be general or specific to you.
I would always say, light a candle, an incense stick and play a track that has beautiful soothing
tones without words AND meditate. Or just close your eyes and focus on your breath for a few minutes until you feel calmer and more centred, holding your question or topic in your mind as firmly as possible. It works best if you turn your phone off and remain in silence until you have completed the process.
When you feel ready open your eyes and start paging through the magazines, don’t read the articles, forget about words for now as this engages the conscious mind. Tear out any pictures that resonate regardless of how unrelated they seem to the subject at hand. Keep going……
(NB don’t tear out any pics with words on them)
The sages say we awaken by making the unconscious conscious!
The filtration process has started in our pond.
Once we have made something conscious we are able to look at it, process it and heal it.
We don’t even have to know what it is we are looking at, in this image we have created.
It Processes Anyway! Life starts to move and shift and the more we do this
process the clearer we become.
What I find quite useful in this process is sticking your picture up in a place
where you will see it for a week or so as a reminder to the conscious mind.
And of course if it’s really beautiful, why not put it on display,
along with the next and the next!
The types of images you choose, the colours, the positioning, the spacing
all tell a story. For further info please feel free to contact me and we
can do a one on one session tailored to your needs.
